Doha: The State of Qatar is hosting a regional workshop on external radiation dosimetry, with special focus on monitoring the exposure of the limbs and eye lenses to radiation.
Organised by the International Atomic energy Agency (IAEA) in cooperation with the Ministry of Public health and Hamad Medical Corporation, from May 7 (today) to 11, the workshop primarily aims to foster interactive debates on the methods of establishing, optimising and coordinating the external monitoring capabilities of doses to hands, legs and eye lenses, in conformity with IAEA's safety requirements and standards to ensure the annual dose limits for the eye lens are not exceeded.
The operators who could potentially be exposed to this risk primarily include medial specialists who operate image-guided equipment in cardiac catheterisation and interventional radiology, along with medical specialists who discharge some functions in nuclear medicine, as well as workers in emergency response and Industrial radiography.
International experts from Qatar, Greece, Kuwait and Lebanon are presenting the workshop, with the participation of 28 international delegates.
