Survivors Sue American Tactical for Distributing High-Capacity Magazine Used in FedEx Shooting

(MENAFN) Survivors and victims' family members of a mass shooting at a FedEx facility in Indiana are suing American Tactical, the company that distributed the high-capacity magazine used in the killings. The federal lawsuit filed on Thursday argues that American Tactical's sale of high-capacity ammunition magazines (HCMs) is "reckless" and that the company is aware of how many times such magazines have been used in recent killings.

American Tactical, based in New York, sells HCMs that allow shooters to fire off 60 rounds of ammunition without reloading. The lawsuit argues that this feature is "not necessary, or even useful, for lawful self-defense or hunting." A magazine is used to store and feed ammunition into semiautomatic and automatic guns, with rounds or cartridges consisting of a bullet or projectile that is fired from a gun.

The April 2021 shooting at the FedEx facility in Indianapolis claimed the lives of nine people, including Jaswinder Singh. The shooter, former FedEx employee Brandon Hole, used a high-capacity magazine in the attack. Singh's son Gurinder Singh Bains told CBS affiliate WTTV on Thursday that American Tactical sells "instruments of mass killing and have no problem marketing them directly to people with horrific intentions."

The lawsuit filed by survivors and victims' family members highlights the ongoing debate over gun control and the role of high-capacity magazines in mass shootings. While some argue that these magazines are necessary for self-defense and hunting, others argue that they have no place in civilian use due to their potential to cause mass casualties.

American Tactical's sale of high-capacity magazines has come under scrutiny following the FedEx shooting and other mass shootings in recent years. The lawsuit filed by survivors and victims' family members argues that the company's decision to continue selling these magazines despite their association with mass shootings is reckless and puts lives at risk. As the debate over gun control and the regulation of high-capacity magazines continues, the outcome of this lawsuit could have significant implications for the firearms industry.
