Arab Human Rights Observatory Welcomes UN Report On Violations In Palestine
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, March 4 (KUNA) -- The Arab Observatory for Human Rights, affiliated with the Arab Parliament, Saturday welcomed the report of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk on ensuring accountability and justice for all violations of international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem
In a statement, the observatory said the Israeli occupation authorities have been practicing flagrant violations against Islamic and Christian sanctities, and Palestinian people by killing hundreds with live ammunition, and artillery and missile strikes, in addition to the displacement of hundreds and construction of settlements in a way that violates all human and international values and norms.
This is an 'unacceptable' act that violates the international humanitarian law and impedes any attempt aiming to build a permanent and fair peace in the region, which is full of disputes, and in a world facing great challenges, according to the statement.
The statement stressed the need for the international community, mainly the UN Security Council and the parties sign the fourth Geneva Accord, of honoring their pledges and using all methods to hold Israel accountable for its practices, in line with international law.
The observatory called for condemning continued tactics aiming to suppress the freedoms of Palestinian people, it noted.
It expressed concern about amounting violations of the Israeli forces against Palestinians that have increased over the last months in a way that threatens security and stability, and impedes any serious attempts for a fair peace, the statement concluded. (end)
