PSG extended the lead in the 72nd minute when Argentine superstar Lionel Messi fired the ball to the bottom corner in one-on-one following a stunning feed by Ruiz.
Arnaud Nordin of Montpellier closed the margin in the 89th minute, but PSG sealed the victory with a right-footed strike from 16-year-old midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery a few minutes later.
PSG moved five points clear of the league top with the away win, increasing their points total to 51 in 21 games. Montpellier has 20 points and is ranked lower.
PSG's closest rivals in the league rankings, Olympique Marseille, are currently in second place with 46 points after a 2-0 win against Nantes on Wednesday evening.
