Cricket was first played in Italy in 1793 when Admiral Horatio Nelson staged the first cricket match in Naples. A century later, two of the world's most famous football clubs, AC Milan and Genoa Cricket and Football Club, began life as cricket clubs in 1889 and 1893 respectively. However, due to limited access and elitist attitudes, as well as a lack of suitable grounds, cricket never took off among the local population. As a result, football grew in popularity to become the sport of choice for Italians.
Cricket was played very sporadically from the 1930s to the 1970s. However, through the efforts of some enthusiastic locals, Asian and British expatriates, and some embassy staff, the Italian Cricket Association was established in 1980.
Maruf is a passionate cricket fan and could not stay away from cricket even for a day. He also played cricket in Italy but in a country where cricket is unknown, that dream was not fully realized instead he chose to popularize cricket in this country. He never gave up on his dream, Maruf wanted to popularize cricket in Italy. He launched Italian Cricket TV, a digital platform for watching cricket in Italy. Italian Cricket TV had to be different from the start, they created content that a group of people would love to watch cricket and they did it as consistently as possible.
He has been trying various ways to keep an Italian presence in cricket, for this he launched Italian Cricket TV in 2019, a streaming house that follows the game of cricket in Italy, and has had a huge Italian fan following since its creation.
Maruf Anowar said:
“Cricket is the second most played sport in the world but people in Italy don't know that and I hope that will change in the coming years. My dream is to bring Italians into the game and have a full presence of Italians in cricket. Cricket may not be well known to them but we have to let them know, we have to do something different to popularize this game, and to do something, we have to show them what cricket is and how much fun the game is. . We want to increase their interest in cricket. I have loved cricket since I was 4 years old, played at a high level in Bangladesh, former tech founder, musician, and investor in Italy for the past decade, then decided that I wanted to invest in growing my favorite sport in Italy, I started a passion project called Italian Cricket TV which was an online success. I think some steps need to be taken with cricket in Italy and I think we have the potential to change the tag of not being a popular sport in Italy. Just like us, we will promote the game in the Italian language and show them pictures/videos/news in the Italian language which will help our Italian people to attract more attention to cricket".
Maruf has taken another big step in Italian Cricket by announcing one of his biggest launches which is CricTaly.com, CricTaly will be the first news website in Italy to cover international cricket in Italian. It aims to provide all cricket in Italian, Maruf has built a team of renowned writers who always provide all the latest cricket news, videos, and articles in Italian. The team will always be available for cricket updates, ensuring fans' efficiency. CricTaly wants to bring Italian people to follow cricket in their language which makes it easier for them to understand and follow the game.
Maruf Anowar overcame his challenges turned them into opportunities and achieved his goals.
He is a proud entrepreneur who started working at the age of 10. While people his age were doing normal teenage things, he was making the most of his potential and working hard day and night to become who he is today. Sacrificing his teenage years for a brighter future has played in his favor today.
