Black Friday: Amazon employees stage walkouts, demonstrations

(MENAFN) According to activists, Amazon employees and allies have marched in dozens of countries to oppose the retail giant's labor policy.

From Germany and France to the United States, from India to Japan and the United Kingdom, Amazon employees downed tools or marched for improved working conditions and fair salaries on Friday.

The protests took place on Black Friday, one of the biggest shopping days of the year, when large discounts drive sales, putting additional strain on retail and warehouse workers.

The Make Amazon Pay alliance, which called for the strikes, said there was industrial action and protests in more than 30 nations.

Demonstrations occurred at nine of Amazon's 20 German warehouses, however the firm stated on Friday morning that the great majority of its employees in the nation were working normally.

The Verdi union, which organized the German strikes, asked that the corporation recognize collective bargaining agreements for the retail and mail-order commerce sectors.
