Obiang Re-Elected As Equatorial Guinea's Pres.


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ALGIERS, Nov 27 (KUNA) -- Teodoro Obiang Nguema has been re-elected as Equatorial Guinea's President, after winning with 94,4 percent of votes in the Nov. 20 presidential elections, according to official results published by the National Committee on Saturday.
'The commission announces candidate Obiang Nguema Mbasogo as President of Equatorial Guinea' for a new term of office of seven years, said head of the Electoral Commission Faustino Ndong Esono Eyang in a statement, noting that turnout in these presidential elections reached 98 percent.
The commission did not reveal the votes' results of the opposition candidates Andres Esono Ondo of the Convergence for Social Democracy, and Bonaventura Monsuy Asumu of the Social Democratic Coalition.
In addition to the presidential elections, the Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea and its coalition won all 100 seats in the Parliament, and all 55 seats in the Senate, in legislative and local elections held simultaneously.
A total of 427,661 citizens of Equatorial Guinea out of a population of 1.4 million are registered on the electoral lists.
General elections were held in Equatorial Guinea on 20 November 2022 to elect the President and members of Parliament, alongside local elections. (end)
