Pentagon questions Iran's missile allegation

(MENAFN) According to a Pentagon official, the Pentagon dismisses Iran's claims of developing a hypersonic weapon. Last week, a top Iranian commander announced that Tehran had succeeded in manufacturing the technology.

“We’ve seen the reports asserted and coming out of Iran. We remain skeptical of these reports,” Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh stated when questioned on Thursday about reports in Iranian source. She also highlighted that the US military was monitoring “any development or proliferation of advanced technology coming out of Iran or missile systems.”

Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Aerospace Force, said that Tehran now has a projectile capable of flying at hypersonic speeds - normally described as more than five times the speed of sound (IRGC).

He informed media that the new ballistic missile was designed to pierce enemy air defense systems and navigate both within and beyond the atmosphere, but he didn't go into greater detail. He also stated that the technology to intercept the weapon would take at least several decades to develop.
