The exhibition is part of the celebrations of the bicentennial of the Independence of Brazil celebrated this year and is held by the Gallery (pictured above) and Brazil's Embassy in Amman, with support from the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) and the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies.

The photographs exhibited are part of the“Thereza Christina Maria Collection,” Brazil's first set of documents listed in UNESCO's Memory of the World Register. The emperor visited Lebanon , Syria , Palestine and Egypt in the nineteenth century and left several records of these travels, including photographs and diaries.

The book The Journeys of Dom Pedro II. Middle East and North Africa, 1871 and 1876 by Brazilian researcher and author Roberto Khatlab was one of the bases of the content of the exhibition in Jordan. Other Arab countries like Lebanon and Egypt also hosted exhibition on the travels of the emperor to mark Brazil's Bicentennial of Independence.

“The exhibitions held by the embassies of Brazil in Beirut, Cairo, Amman, and the one soon to be held in Jerusalem makes him remembered. He was the great promoter of Brazil in the East in the nineteenth century and a pioneer in Brazil-Arab relations,” Khatlab says, adding that the exhibition will also take place in Brazil and that the emperor's visit to the Arab countries attracted immigrants.

The opening of the show in Amman was attended by Tourism and Antiquities minister Nayef Al-Fayez, who represented the chairman of the curator board of the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies, prince El Hassan Bin Talal. The ceremony was also attended by princess Wijdan Ali, Brazil's ambassador to Jordan Ruy Amaral, and other authorities.

ABCC president Osmar Chohfi signs one of the exhibition texts, and so do ambassador Ruy Amaral, Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies director Renee Hattar, and Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts director Khalid Khreis.
