Ukraine serves as testing ground for Western weapons

(MENAFN) According to the country's defense minister, the situation in Ukraine allows Western arms manufacturers an opportunity to observe which goods perform best in a genuine combat against Russia.

“We have a combat testing field in Ukraine during this war,” Aleksey Reznikov clarified. “We have eight different 155mm artillery systems in the field … so it’s like a competition between systems” to see which one proves best.

The remarks were made in an interview with Politico, which was published on Tuesday. The notion of a testing site was first raised by Reznikov's subordinate, Vladimir Gavrilov, who claimed that certain American defense firms were testing prototypes in Ukraine.

According to Reznikov, Kiev expects military help from NATO nations to continue coming into the Ukraine for years and intends to gain more from it. Ukraine, for example, may form joint ventures to manufacture weapons with Poland, the United Kingdom, or Germany.

“We have to develop a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) industry not only for aerial drones but also on land and in the sea because it’s the future” of warfare, he outlined.
