US issues dire cautionary in event use of nuclear weapons by Russia in Ukraine

(MENAFN) After the Russian foreign Minister stated that regions staging much condemned referendums would have complete security in the event that Moscow seized those territories, the United States issued a warning on Sunday that using nuclear weapons in Ukraine would have "catastrophic consequences."

On Sunday, voting continued for a third day in four eastern Ukrainian districts that are seeking to acquire land that Russia has seized forcibly. Within a few days, the Russian parliament might take action to formally annex the territory.

Moscow might depict attempts to recover Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia as attacks on Russia itself, sending a message to Kyiv and its Western backers.

The United States has warned Russia of the "catastrophic consequences" it would face if it used nuclear weapons against Ukraine, according to Jake Sullivan, the nation's national security adviser.

Sullivan explained to NBC's "Meet the Press" program, “if Russia crosses this line, there will be catastrophic consequences for Russia. The United States will respond decisively.”
