Indian Textile Industry Prepares For EU Sustainability Directive

(MENAFN- KNN India) New Delhi, Jul 26 (KNN) The Confederation of Indian Textile industry (CITI) has partnered with the Fair Wear Foundation to prepare Indian textile exporters for the European Union's Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).

Enacted in May 2024, the CSDDD mandates European companies to implement comprehensive human rights and environmental due diligence across global supply chains.

CITI Chairman Rakesh Mehra highlighted the directive's transformative potential for the Indian textile sector, emphasising the opportunity to meet global standards and address industry challenges.

A capacity-building workshop was held in Surat on July 24, 2024, covering key aspects of the CSDDD, including brand obligations, environmental responsibilities, and chemical compliance.

The event featured insights from industry experts and introduced participants to various sustainability certifications.

This initiative represents a proactive approach by the Indian textile industry to align with global sustainability standards and strengthen its international market position. A follow-up workshop is scheduled for July 26, 2024, in Coimbatore.

By embracing the CSDDD, Indian manufacturers aim to enhance their negotiation leverage and better understand risks and opportunities in the global textile trade.
