The Philippine Embassy in Qatar is inviting Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the country who are planning to start a micro-agri business to attend its Agribusiness webinar series, which will start next week.

The series will discuss four topics every month, until November. Programme for returning OFWs will be on August 12; Hog Rising, on September 2; Tilapia and Catfish Raising, October 7; and Vegetable Farming, November 4.

The Agribusiness webinar series is free of charge and interested individuals can register via accessing the Philippine Embassy in Qatar Facebook page. This is in partnership with the Philippine Department of Agriculture (DA), and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

The micro-agri business programme was launched in 2021 to support and provide OFWs alternative sources of livelihood, while promoting agriculture and agribusiness development in the Philippines. Its first international launch was held in South Korea last year.

DA and OWWA have various benefit programmes, opportunities and financial assistance to returning OFWs. Under DA's Agricultural Credit and Policy Council, some of the loan programmes are expanded SURE-Aid and Recovery Project, for micro and small enterprises, and for marginalised, small farmers and fishers; Agri-Negosyo or ANYO, for micro and small enterprises; and Kapital Access for Young Agripreneurs or KAYA, for start-up or existing agri-based projects.

Meanwhile, among the benefits from OWWA are social benefits; education scholarship and training benefits; welfare programmes; reintegration programme and repatriation assistance benefits. Filipino workers in Qatar expressed their interest in the agribusiness ventures and were encouraged to register to be better acquainted in this type of enterprise.

“I am excited to be part of this webinar because I have long dreamed to raise a vegetable farm in my home province in Pampanga and Romblon. This webinar series will assist me in taking the appropriate and crucial measures to launch my own business in the Philippines,” said Samantha who's been working in Qatar for six years.

Edgar said the programme will help him and his family to have another source of income ,while still working in the country.“This is one step towards being an entrepreneur, and another step to have a second source of revenue while slowly building my business back home,” he said.

The timing for the Agribusiness webinar series is at 10am and limited slots are available.
