Amman, June 21 (Petra) -- The Arab Council for Population and Development and representatives of the national population councils and committees of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Tunisia, Algeria and Saudi Arabia on Tuesday discussed the integration of population issues and dynamics into national policies, strategies and action plans and regional development programs.
The virtual meeting, which was chaired by Acting Secretary-General and Head of the Executive Office of the council Rania Al-Abbadi of Jordan, tackled enhancing the capacities of workers in population affairs on the use of software and building the capacities of national population councils and committees in the field of reproductive health and social risks.
It also addressed the impact of climate change on the population in Arab countries, training on the use of the Population and Development Index (PDCI), coordination and exchange of expertise between member states and Iraq and enhancing the capacities of workers in national population councils and committees in the field of responsible management of results.
Al-Abbadi pointed to the enormous political, economic and social challenges posed to Arab countries, which impacted population and development issues and the lives and well-being of their citizens.
She pointed out that the coronavirus pandemic compounded these challenges, increased the burdens on countries and affected the implementation of strategies that were drawn up before the pandemic.
