Employees in Poland protest being held captive by Russian sanctions


(MENAFN) Hundreds of Polish employees came to the streets on Friday to denounce the government's decision to halt Sulzer Turbo Services' operations owing to its links to Russian billionaire Viktor Vekselberg.

As per Polish media, roughly 160 individuals ended up losing their source of income suddenly as a result of penalties imposed on the company's minority stakeholder. The protest occurred in Warsaw in front of the Ministry of the Interior. protesters could be heard yelling, "Sanctions for Russians, not Poles."

Tiwel Holding AG is controlled by Vekselberg's Renova Group, which owns 48.82 percent of the Swiss industrial engineering firm as of May 2018.

The government of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki sanctioned 35 organizations and 15 people from Russia and Belarus, including Vekselberg, for suspected "close ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin and former President Dmitry Medvedev" at the end of April.
