(MENAFN) US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has appealed a Taylor Swift hit to send a letter to Russian Leader Vladimir Putin that Moscow-Washington relations, overwhelmed by the war in Ukraine, will not be enhanced.

During an inauguration speech at Georgetown University, Blinken began comparing himself to the 11-time Grammy victor Swift, who was shown before in the same role at New York University.

On the words of the secretary of state, who’s a guitar fan “I want to start by kicking the elephant out of the room. Yes, NYU got Taylor Swift as their commencement speaker,” adding “Now, my staff didn't let me bring my guitar up here to dedicate a performance of ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' to President Putin.”

The envoi went on to say that his employees had cautioned him that a full version would be “undiplomatic” and “cringe.”
