Death Toll In Sweeping Fires In Eastern Siberia Rises To Seven People


(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Novosibirsk, May 9, 2022, SPA -- The death toll in large-scale fires that swept through the Krasnoyarsk Region in Eastern Siberia on Saturday due to strong winds destroying over 500 homes rose from five to seven people, Deputy Chief of the Regional Emergencies Department Roman Vetchinnikov said on Monday, according to TASS.
'On May 7, unfavorable factors on the territory of the Krasnoyarsk Region triggered 273 fires that destroyed 518 houses and 309 structures.'
Seven people died and another 19 received injuries of various degree of severity.
As of now, the situation with the fires in the Krasnoyarsk Region has stabilized,' Vetchinnikov said in a video posted on the regional Emergencies Department's Telegram Channel.
A total of 120 rescue workers and 26 pieces of equipment are involved in the efforts to clean up the consequences of the fires in the region, he added.
