UAE - 11th Conference of Association of Senates, Shoora, and Equivalent Councils in Africa and Arab World condemns cross-border terror attacks on Arab, African countries

RABAT, 5th March, 2022 (WAM) -- The 11th conference of the Association of Senates, Shoora and Equivalent Councils in Africa and the Arab World (ASSECAA), has condemned all forms of terrorism against the Arab and African regions.

The UAE delegation to the meeting was chaired by Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the UAE federal National Council (FNC).

In its final communique today, the congress strongly condemned the cross-border terror attacks launched by the Houthi terrorist group, including the attacks on the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia that struck civilians and civilian infrastructure.

The final communique also lauded the UN Security Council resolution 2624 (2022) which labelled the Houthi militia a 'terrorist group' and renewed arms embargo on Yemen. The congress renewed its full and unconditional support for Yemen's unity and territorial sovereignty.

The Congress adopted a proposal by the UAE Federal National Council to establish a Standing Committee on Women.

Organized by the House of Advisors in Morocco, the three-day congress aims mainly to establish the basis for cooperation between participating states and to discuss a range of issues and topics of great importance to African and Arab countries.

Morocco holds the presidency of the Association, in the person of speaker of the House of Advisors, Naama Mayara.

In addition to the speeches of the participating delegations, the agenda of the event included the presentation of the report of the General Secretariat, which presented the assessment of the activities of the ASSECAA during the period since the 10th congress and the prospects of work.

The congress dealt with two main themes, namely 'Cooperation and Afro-Arab solidarity as a basis for urban upgrading and development in the context of the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic', 'Youth and women at the center of development policies and sustainable investments'.
