Russia's cyberattacks on Ukraine, can initiate international cyberwar

(MENAFN) Governments on both sides of the Atlantic are concerned that Russia's cyberattacks on Ukraine, which are accompanied by a military occupation, could spread to other nations, resulting in an all-out cyberwar.

In previous weeks, Russia has been implicated for a series of cyberattacks against Ukraine's government and banking sector.

ESET, a cybersecurity agency, announced on Thursday that it has detected new "wiper" malware aimed at Ukrainian businesses. The goal of this type of malware is to wipe information from the systems it accesses.

A disseminated disruption of service (DDoS) attack had taken down the internet sites of many Ukrainian government offices and banks the day prior. A DDoS attack occurs when hackers flood a site with traffic until it collapses.
