Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS) Lakshman Kadirgamar Research Award 2022

Established in 1974, the BCIS is a non-profit, tertiary level education and research institute dedicated to teaching, research and advanced studies in International Relations.

Lakshman Kadirgamar (1932 – 2005), the Chairman of the Council of Management of the BCIS from 2002 to 2005, was an international lawyer, statesman and foreign minister of Sri Lanka, who made an outstanding contribution to a range of issues in politics and international relations.

As Chairman of the Council of Management of the BCIS, Kadirgamar breathed new life into the institution. He forged links with similar organisations in South Asia and beyond.

With the establishment of the Lakshman Kadirgamar Research Award (2021), the BCIS seeks to celebrate Kadirgamar's commitment to the promotion of global peace, understanding and solidarity among nations and peoples.

Eligibility Requirements Scholars between 25 and 35 years of age are invited to apply.

All applications should include a copy of the applicant's curriculum vitae and a research proposal.


Applications called for Lakshman Kadirgamar Research Award-2022 Image

The research proposal must:

• not exceed 2500 words,

• indicate the research problem and its context;

• include a brief literature review,

• state the objectives of the proposed research and its scholarly or policy relevance

• outline the research methodology and a work plan not exceeding nine months.

Research proposals that offer fresh insights into issues in international relations related to themes highlighted in the BCIS website ( ) will be considered for the award which will be for a period of studies not exceeding nine months.

Nationals of South Asia will be eligible for this award.
