Aqaba, Jan. 22 (Petra)-Aqaba ports achieved an increase in revenues last year to reach JD66 million, up by 4%, compared to 2020, meanwhile their passenger traffic rose to 250,000 travellers, an increase of 17%.
In a press statement on Saturday, Director General of Aqaba Company for Ports Operation and Management (ACPOM), Khaled Maaitah, said the increase in the handling volume indicates Aqaba ports' recovery after Covid-19 pandemic-related restrictions were imposed.
A total of 15 million million tonnes of various supplies, livestock and vehicles were handled at the ports, he pointed out.
Moreover, Maaitah pointed to a decline in container handling due to the rise in international freight rates and a drop in demand by traders and investors to transport goods of all kinds from the foreign market.
As the first 2022 investment in Jordan's Golden Triangle, Maaitah announced a Djibouti ship, which is loaded with 1,320 heads of camels, has arrived to Aqaba ports and transported to the southern city of Ma'an for breeding.
