Subhas Chandra Bose's family on Friday welcomed Narendra Modi government's decision to install Netaji's statue at India Gate, Delhi.
While speaking to India Today, a senior member of the Bose family, Sugata Bose, who had been a Trinamool Congress Rajya Sava member stated: 'I welcome the announcement by the Prime Minister to install a statue of Netaji at India Gate.'
Pointing to the impact of Netaji's statue installation on the nation, he said: 'I hope this statue will inspire all Indians to ensure equality for everyone, regardless of which religious community they belong to, which linguists' group they might belong to.'
The move by the Center to install Netaji's statue at India Gate came at a time when the Bengal government and Center were facing off over the issue of excluding Bengal's tableau commemorating Netaji's 125th birth anniversary.
Reacting to this, Sugata Bose said: 'Bengal's tableau on Nataji and the Ajad Hind Fauz should have been accepted by the Centre. After all, this is Netaji's 125th birth anniversary and the 75th year of independence.'
'I would like to set aside all the controversies and would want all Indians and all South Asians to come to celebrate the great man,' added Bose.
The same narrative was echoed in the voice of another Bose family member, Chandra Kumar Bose. He said, 'Netaji Subhas Condra Bose's statue should have been installed in front of India Gate in New Delhi. It was our prolonged demand. This decision is a matter of happiness.'
