Doha: Qatar University (QU) and Jordan's Mutah University signed an agreement to enhance cooperation in the educational, academic, research, and training fields in the agricultural field to serve the local and Arab community.
QU President Dr. Hassan bin Rashid Al Derham and President of Mutah University Dr. Arafat Atwi Awajan signed the agreement in the presence of several officials from the two universities.
The two parties agreed to cooperate in the field of scientific research in the agricultural field, by encouraging faculty members in the two institutions to take sabbatical leave for teaching and scientific research according to the capabilities available to each of them, in addition to exchanging faculty members and experts, holding joint discussion sessions on agreed-upon topics, and supervising university theses at the masters and doctoral levels in various programs.
Also, the agreement provides for encouraging faculty members and their researchers to conduct joint scientific research, exchanging scientific research papers and university theses, and encouraging their faculty members to publish their research in their journals.
In a statement on this occasion, QU President Dr. Hassan bin Rashid Al Derham praised the level of Jordanian universities and their great scientific role, saying that this agreement with an ancient university is important to QU in a vital field, which is the agricultural field.
He explained that QU seeks to conclude partnership and cooperation agreements in other scientific and research fields with Mutah University, and expand scientific cooperation in the field of graduate studies, technologies, cybersecurity, and other important disciplines.
In turn, the President of Mutah University Dr. Arafat Atwi Awajan valued this cooperation with QU, stressing its importance to enhance cooperation in a vital area for Arab security, which is the agricultural sector. He added that Mutah University has great experiences in the field of agricultural production and research related to addressing water scarcity and the quality of agricultural production.
He praised QU's vital role and its advanced position among international universities, stressing that this agreement will positively reflect on scientific and research cooperation between the two universities. He pointed out that Mutah University aims to deepen scientific research to solve agricultural problems and the scarcity of water resources to reach agricultural production by relying on automation and benefiting from the 60-year experiences and knowledge in this field.
