European stock market ends with major declines on Friday


(MENAFN) The week ended with losses for all significant European markets.

The STOXX Europe 600 index fell by 4.89 points, or 1.01 percent, to reach 481.16. Although it represents about 90 percent of the market's capitalization of the European stock market in 17 nations.

While the FTSE 100 index in the United Kingdom ended the week at 7,542.95, plummeting by 20.9 points or 0.28 percent. As for Germany's DAX 30, it fell by 0.93 percent, dropping 148.35 points to end at 15,883.24. And France's CAC 40 declined by 0.81 percent, or 58.14 points, to reach 7,143 points.

Italy's FTSE MIB fell by 300.49 points, or 1.08 percent, to stop at 27,543.96, whereas Spain's IBEX 35 plunged by 10.30 points, or 0.12 percent, to hit 8,806.6.

All in all, financial markets ended with major declines on Friday; in the midts of the soaring infections of Covid-19’s new strain, Omicron.
