Afghanistan - Muttaqi in Tehran for talks with Iranian officials

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Taliban foreign minister has arrived in Tehran on his maiden trip to the neighbouring country for talks with Iranian officials.

The 26-member delegation led by Muttaqi includes Minister of Economy Din Mohammad Hanif, Minister of industry and Commerce Nooruddin Azizi, the deputy head of the Chamber of Industry and Mines, Sakhi Ahmad Paiman, and others.

Amir Khan Muttaqi arrived in the Iranian capital late on Saturday at the head of a high-level delegation, Iranian media reported on Sunday.

The two sides will hold discussions on political, economic, transit and refugee issues, according to the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul.

Before his departure for Iran, Muttaqi told reporters at the Kabul airport that they would also confer on boosting bilateral trade.

Optimistic about his trip, the foreign minister hinted at signing agreements with Iran on trade, economic and political issues.

Talking to reporters at Kabul airport, Muttaqi said they will hold talks with the Iranian officials on political and economic issues, including bilateral trade.
