The Shura Council held Monday its regular weekly meeting, under the chairmanship of HE Speaker of the Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim.
At the beginning of the session, HE Secretary-General of the Shura Council Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al Fadhala, read out the agenda of the session, and the minutes of the previous session were approved.
During the session, HE Vice-Chairman of the joint committee formed by the legal and Legislative Affairs, and the financial and Economic Affairs Committees of the Shura Council Mohammed bin Youssef Al Mana, briefed the members of the Council on what was studied and discussed regarding the two draft laws on social insurance and military retirement, during the committees six meetings.
HE Vice-Chairman of the Joint Committee explained that the committee had finished discussing the two draft laws and raised questions and observations about them, as the committee decided to invite representatives of the competent authorities to discuss these questions and observations with them, and to clarify all the aspects of the two draft laws.
In this context, HE Speaker of the Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, pointed out the importance of the two draft laws, and the great importance they represent to citizens, praising the work of the committee and its keenness to study and discuss the two draft laws in detail, based on the commitment of the Council to pursuing the interests of citizens and to meet their aspirations.
On the other hand, HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, briefed the Council on the work done in the Electoral Programs Committee, indicating the importance of this topic and pointing out, in this context, to the Council's decision in its last session regarding establishing a mechanism for presenting the requests of the members to the Council.
In this context, HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council affirmed that the committee discussed and approved its work plan and system, as well as inventorying and collecting most of the electoral programs, pointing out that the number of programs that were counted amounted to108 electoral programs, 70 of which were studied, affirming that the committee would continue its work until the classification of programs was completed.
In this regard, the Council commended the progress made in the work of the two committees, affirming in this context its keenness to achieve the interest of the country and the citizens, and to do everything that would achieve the public interest and meet the aspirations and ambitions of the citizens, by continuing its work and carrying out its national duty towards the homeland and the people.
As the session continued, the Council reviewed the report submitted by HE Khalid bin Ghanem Al Ali Al Maadheed, a member of the Council, on his participation in the meeting of the European Parliament's Delegation for Relations with the Arabian Peninsula, devoted to Climate Change and Renewable Energy in the Gulf States, which was held via video conference on Dec. 9, 2021.
HE Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri, the member of the Council, also briefed the Shura Council on the participation of the Councils delegation in the Ninth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption which was held in Sharm El-Sheikh of the Arab Republic of Egypt, from Dec. 13 -17, 2021.
In this regard, the members praised the Council's participation in these two events, pointing out the importance of the topics discussed related to climate change, combating corruption, and the role of the Council in participating in such events that reflects its interest in pressing issues and following up on developments, whether at the local, regional or international levels, and actively contributing to them.
