Qatar - 13th Marmi Festival from January 1, registration starts today

Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) has announced that the registration for the 13th Marmi Festival will start today, December 25 until 27.
This will be held at Al Gannas Qatari Society Building 33 in Katara from 4pm to 8pm. The festival will begin from January 1 to 29, 2022 at Sabkhat Marmi – Mesaieed (Sealine).
Among the categories include Al Mazzain, an international competition for the beautiful falcons; Young Falconer which involves asking young competitors a group of questions related to Falcons and Falconry, which is aimed to discover the talented young falconers.
Also, Youth Falconry which is dedicated for young falconers aged 11 to 15 to demonstrate their skills in Da'u (Lure). The participating falcons do not exceed the size of 15 inches and can be of any falcon species except gyrkins. Hadad Al Tahaddi is designated for Juvenile Peregrine Falcon. The competition starts by releasing a single Zajil pigeon (Homer pigeon) to fly away, the falcon would be considered as a winner if it was able to case it our surrounded it in one place.
Hadad Al Saluqi is also a contest only for the pure Arabian Saluqi breeds (non-crossbred). A deer“gazelle” will be set on a special car, and the Saluqis must race and chase the gazelle for two kilometers in order to win. Al Dau competition assesses the speed of a flying falcon from a start point until the finish point for 400 meters. And, Al Tal' which evaluate the falcon's eyesight sharpness and observe the prey by using a Houbara placed about two kilometers far from the falcons. The winner falcon is the one which first flies towards the Houbara.
Qatar International Falcons and Hunting Festival, popularly known as Marmi, is one of the largest festivals in the specilised field of falcons and hunting in the region. It is considered one of the important features of the original Qatari culture. It presents various aspects of tradition and heritage, and is aimed at reviving them among the new generations.
A cultural association for hunters, Al Gannas was founded in 2008. Dedicated to promoting traditional Arabic hunting. It represents Arab hunters in international and regional contests, organising events and providing support.
The association includes the best facilities and equipment required for hunting, and encourages research and studies in the field.
