Qatar - Confusion on social media over UAE weekend change

Doha: Today UAE had announced that they will shift to a four and half days and shift weekend to Saturday-Sunday. 

Soon a clipping of a leading newspaper with a link to the report started circulating on social media saying“UAE denies social media rumour of changing official weekend” confusing readers if the announcement reported widely in the media today is fake or correct.

The link shared on social media is in fact a genuine report by Khaleej Times, but only that it was published on May 6, 2021.

Later the newspaper published a note on its old report saying“[Editor's Note: This story was published in May 2021. The latest updates in changes to the official weekend in the UAE can be found here (with link to today's report).”

UAE official news agency WAM made the announcement today on their website.

Many users were seen discussing the decision on twitter as all other Gulf countries have Friday as official holiday.
