Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi announced that his country will be hosting OIC's Council of Foreign Ministers' session on Afghanistan on 19th December.

Qureshi in a Twitter post said that Pakistan supports the Saudi Kingdom's suggestion over holding a special session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation that will be concentrated on Afghanistan.

Speaking at a press conference, the Pakistani Foreign Minister said the meeting will be aimed at highlighting the urgent humanitarian need in Afghanistan, seeking ways to avert the deepening crisis and economic collapse in Afghanistan.

The foreign minister also said Afghanistan's humanitarian situation must be addressed timely lest it will have dire consequences not only for people in the country but also for the region and the world.

Mahmood Qureshi again reiterated that Afghanistan's over $9.5 billion assets must be unfrozen so that the country cope with burgeoning needs and avert economic collapse.

The top Pakistan official further added that a delegation of the Afghan government- the Taliban- will also be invited to meet with the countries' representatives prior to the sessions to inform them of what is going on the ground.
