Dubai, UAE: Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai recently treated a patient, Mrs. Rachael who travelled from Nigeria to seek treatment for complications with both her eyes. Complaining of very poor vision, she was very keen on finding a solution to bring her sight back due to the difficulty in being able to perform basic day to day tasks.
Mrs. Rachael consulted with Dr. Salman Waqar, a consultant ophthalmologist, specialising in glaucoma and cataracts surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai.
After a thorough consult and a number of investigations, Dr. Salman identified the root cause of her vision being very poor, which came as a result of severe glaucoma and cataracts that have been affecting her vision for quite some many years.
Based on the diagnosis, Dr. Salman recommended her to undergo two treatments to treat her case successfully. This involved delicate tube insertions to treat the glaucoma and perform cataract surgery to clear the lens of the eyes.
Cataract surgery in particular benefits many glaucoma patients by improving their vision and in Rachael’s case, having a combination of both treatments ensured even better results post recovery.
After successful surgery and receiving the required treatment, Mrs. Rachael’s glaucoma is now controlled without having to use any drops, and she has regained over 60 percent of her vision, which for her is life-altering and gives her the opportunity to live a normal life.
