MME honours participants of project to protect hawksbill turtle


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Ministry of Municipality and Environment's (MME) Department of Protection and Wildlife honoured Wednesday the participating and supporting entities of the project to protect the endangered hawksbill turtle during the 2021 season in addition the members of the work team, in the presence of a number of officials.
Taleb Khalid al-Shahwani, director of the department, said that MME has given greater importance to the projects that maintain biodiversity and protecting the endangered species. He pointed out that the project to protect the hawksbill turtle was started in 2003 under the supervision of the Department of Protection and Wildlife, financed by Qatar Petroleum, and implemented by Qatar University Environmental Studies Center (ESC).
"The 2021 season saw 92 nests moved to the protected area of Fuwairait Beach and 6,371 baby turtles released into the sea," he added.
