Qatar participates in 43rd ISO General Assembly Meeting

QNA Doha: The State of Qatar participated in the 43rd meeting of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) General Assembly, which kicked off yesterday via video communication technology.
The State of Qatar was represented at the meeting by Chairman of Qatar General Organization for Standardization and Metrology (QGOSM) Eng. Mohammed bin Saud Al Musallam.
The three-day meeting was inaugurated by a speech from the ISO President, in which he welcomed the delegations participating in the meeting that is being held in conjunction to its 75th anniversary. He shed light on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on all walks of life, and the ISO's response to the crisis, to highlight the role of international standards regarding the pandemic.
The meeting will review a set of procedural and executive items, including the ISO Secretary-General's report, the ISO activities to support cooperation with the relevant authorities, the projects to implement ISO Strategy 2030, and the achievements made at the end of the second quarter of 2021, in addition to the framework adopted by ISO's Board of Directors to measure the progress and implementation of the strategy.
The meeting will also touch on several topics, including the approval of the contributions of countries to the organization for 2022, the review of the statute and work rules of the organization and access to reports on its work policies and technical and financial aspects, in addition to announcing the results of the elections of board members for the 2022-2024 period, as well as the appointment of a vice president for policy affairs and another for technical affairs.
The meeting will also shed light on the London Declaration, prepared by ISO, with the aim of helping to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change, quantifying greenhouse gas emissions and promoting good environmental management practices through preparing new standards and reviewing previously issued standards to achieve these goals.
Qatar has been a member of the ISO since 1993.
