Fire Station announces sixth edition of Artist in Residence programme

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Some 16 Doha-based artists are taking part in the sixth edition of Doha Fire Station's Artist in Residence (AIR 6) programme, which was launched yesterday and will run until June 15, 2022. Participating artists for the nine-month residency programme include Aisha al-Mannai, Wadha al-Musallam, Johnatan Machado, Noof al-Theyab, Ali al-Naama, Hazim Mohamed, Abdulrahman al-Thani, Hemanth Madupu, Fatima al-Yousef, Noor al-Kuwari, Maha al-Sulaiti, Sarah Jayyousi, Amna Almuftah, Shaikha al-Khulaifi, Abeer Zakzouk and Farah al-Sidiky.

The programme provides an opportunity for artists residing in Qatar to develop their creative practice through mentorship, working with curators, open studios and access to the building's facilities including a fabrication lab and exhibition spaces.

During the residency, the Doha Fire Station will host two open studio events, one in the fall and another in spring. The Open Studio Night is an event where members of the public are given access to the Fire Station studios to meet the artists, view their artworks and learn more about the current projects of the Artists in Residence programme.
The residency programme includes networking events for participating artists such as workshops and weekly artists gatherings held in the studios. In addition, the artists will have the opportunity to meet curators, visiting artists and museum professionals in one-on-one studio visits to view and critique their projects.
At the end of the residency programme, artists will be given the opportunity to showcase their artworks in an exhibition in the Garage Gallery at the Fire Station.
Khalifa Ahmad al Obaidli, director of the Fire Station, said:“Our annual Artist in Residence programme aims to nurture creative talent in Qatar. Over the course of nine months, participating artists work to hone artistic practice in visual arts, photography, film, sound art, design or literature. The programme is also a great opportunity for artists to network and draw inspiration from one another.”
As part of Qatar Museums' (QM) expanding network, the Doha Fire Station is committed to fostering creativity among the wider community and supporting local artists through programmes such as the Artist in Residence.
Through its impressive portfolio of museums, community outreach programmes and historical preservation initiatives, QM is nurturing a sustainable cultural infrastructure and firmly positioning itself as a leading cultural hub in the region.
