KABUL: Taliban say they have captured five districts of Panjshir province, the last holdout against Taliban since the fall of Kabul.

This is as the resistance front in Panjshir has denied the allegations saying the Taliban have retreated from Parian district and that the fighters have suffered heavy casualties.

The Taliban took over Kabul on August 15 and now control all provinces but Panjsher. Some former government officials have moved to the province to form a front against the Taliban, led by Ahmad Massoud. Bilal Karimi, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, told Pajhwok Afghan News: 'All parts of Panjsher district are under the control of the Mujaheedin of the IEA and clearing operation continues and our next operation will be towards the capital of the province.,”

A resident of the Gulbahar area of Kapisa province, speaking on condition of anonymity, said about 35 pick-ups belonging to the Taliban entered the valley of Panjsher today (Sunday).

But Fahim Dashti, spokesman for the Resistance Front, said the Taliban had been forced to retreat from the Parian district.

He also claimed thousands of Taliban attackers, including a number of Pakistani nationals, had been killed and wounded.

A resident of Panjsher, who did not want to be named, said the Taliban had not taken control of this town and that they had suffered heavy casualities in Anaba, Shutal and Parian districts.

The National Resistance Front said 'thousands of terrorists in Khawak pass and the Taliban had abandoned vehicles and equipment in the Dashte Rewak area.
