Brazil freezes meat exports to China after verifying mad cow illness conditions

(MENAFN) On Saturday, Sep. 4 Brazil's administration declared the freezing of meat exports to China, after verifying two cases of unusual mad cow illness in two different local beef factories.

The provisional freezing, beginning on Saturday, was affirmed in accordance with two-sided health procedures.

A report revealed that the restriction will be effective "until the Chinese authorities complete the evaluation of the information on the cases that has already been delivered.”

The two conditions were registered in the city of Belo Horizonte in the state of Minas Gerais and in Nova Canaa do Norte in the state of Mato Grosso, as stated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA).

After the conditions were verified, Brazil formally reported to the World Organisation for Animal Health.
