Staycation an increasing trend in Qatar

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Staycation is an increasing trend in Qatar because it’s an easy way to take a break without travelling too far. Those who prefer to take a  staycation in  Doha during this Eid holiday season and during summer are offered several choices by hotels such as to be by the beach, explore the city, or to relax at spa.

Although the travel restrictions due to COVID-19 are being relaxed, many are spending their vacations in Qatar. For such people to benefit, hotels across the country have launched exciting offers throughout Eid holidays and summer months.

Staycation, a term coined by merging 'stay’ and 'vacation’, refers to a vacation spent in home country rather than abroad. Along with revitalising the guests, these staycations will boost domestic tourism and stimulate the economy.

During May, average occupancy of hotels in Qatar stood at 56 percent, up 10 percent compared to same month last year, according to ValuStrat- a real estate consultancy firm.
Staycation offers vary from hotels, but generally include up to 50 percent discount on rooms and include breakfast, discount on food and beverages, early check-in and late check-out, access to swimming pools, spa facilities, and discount for children and many other such benefits.

“We’ll never get sick of admiring the views of the city from above, and we could do it just without spending too much money. We got special rates at the hotel and it included breakfast, 20 percent off at all the food and beverage outlets in the hotel,” said Thahira Ismail, a long-time resident of Doha. She and her family spent a weekend at one of the five star hotels, with breathtaking city views.

“We all are in need of several vacations, especially sometimes short breaks from the routine. So from the second day of Eid we are planning for a staycation for two days. We have teenage children so the hotel we choose is giving a 50 percent discount on second room for children under the age of 16 years,” Iliyas, a Tunisian resident in Qatar, said.

“The hotel also offers spa, dining, swimming pool and beach options,” he said.  Staycation offers at hotels across Doha ranges from QR400 to QR3,500 depending on the services and ratings of hotels.  Safety of guests has become a prime focus for hotels amid the outbreak of COVID-19. Hotels have applied the highest possible safety standards to make staycations safe for guests.

Health status on Ehtraz should remain green for all guests. Also  fully vaccinated adults and children with vaccinated parents are allowed for Staycation.
