Indonesia: 5.7 magnitude earthquake hits North Maluku province


(MENAFN) The meteorology and geophysics agency reported that on Wednesday, May. 5 an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 hit North Maluku province in eastern Indonesia.

The earthquake struck at 05:59 a.m. Wednesday Jakarta Time (2259 GMT Tuesday), with the epicenter at 48 km northwest Halmahera Barat region and the deepness at 133 km under sea bed.

The quake did not potentially cause a tsunami.

The power of the earthquake was sensed at III MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity) in Manado, the provincial capital of nearby North Sulawesi province, in the central part of Indonesia.
