Iraq: Four members of security force killed by IS assault near capital
(MENAFN) On Saturday, May. 1 the Iraqi military stated that an overnight assault by extremist Islamic State (IS) rebels north of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, left four soldiers as a minimum dead.
The Iraqi Joint Operations Command stated in a report, quoting preliminary reports that another two were injured by a roadside bomb that the militants had placed and set off in the Tarmiyah area, around 30 km north of the capital.
The report said that back up troops supported by helicopters have been looking through the area for hours since early morning for the assailants.
The bomb assault was followed by a fierce fighting between IS rebels and the forces and that the casualties could increase, said a local police source to Xinhua.
