Western Indonesia struck by 6.4-magnitude earthquake, leaves no casualties


(MENAFN) According to officials, on Tuesday morning, Apr. 20 a quake with a magnitude of 6.4 hit North Sumatra province in western Indonesia with no initial reports of damages or casualties.

The meteorology and geophysics agency reported that the quake did not potentially provoke a tsunami.

The earthquake jolted at 6:58 a.m. Jakarta time on Tuesday with the epicenter at 142 km southwest of Nias island and the shallow at 10 km under sea bed.

The strength of the quake was sensed at II to III MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity) in Nias Barat district, II MMI in Aek Godang of Padang Lawas region, Gunungsitoli town of the island, Padang Sidempuan town and Pakpak Bharat region.
