Cyprus accepts UN's invitation to join peace conference

(MENAFN) An official of the Presidential Palace said on Tuesday that the President of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, informed United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres that he welcomed his invitation to join a UN peace summit in an unique effort to promote the establishment of the long-standing league of the eastern Mediterranean island.

Anastasiades had sent his letter of acceptance Monday to Guterres' official request to an informal forum to be conducted in Geneva from 27 to 29 April, the official CyBC radio qouted Victor Papadopoulos, director of the President's office, as saying.

He further included that Anastasiades told the UN chief of "his commitment, willingness, determination and political will to contribute to the conference's goal of resuming the Cyprus talks from the point they were left behind" upwards of three years earlier at a collapsing meeting also organized in Switzerland.
