Oman extends land border closure till Feb. 8


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Sultanate of Oman decided Sunday to keep its land borders closed until Feb. 8.
The Supreme Committee tasked with tackling developments resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic has decided, as per recommendations of the specialized technical team which is following up the spread of the new Covid-19 strain, to keep the Sultanate's land borders closed for one more week till 6pm of Monday, Feb. 8, the Omani News Agency (ONA) reported.
The Sultanate received Sunday 100,000 doses of the Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine from India.
Omani Health Minister Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Saidi stated that the Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine is effective, safe and its results have been laboratory confirmed, adding that it is important to have an interval of at least four weeks between the first and second dose of the vaccine.
He also stressed that new cases of people infected with new strains of Covid-19 might be detected, pointing out that four laboratory cases were recorded in the Sultanate.
The total number of reported Covid-19 cases in the Sultanate reached 134,326, while the total number of deaths reached 1,529, and the recoveries reached 126,854, bringing the recoveries rate to 94.4 percent.
