Iraq: Protesters kill Civil defense officer in Sulaymaniyah-Dokan highway


(MENAFN)Local sources declared that, in ongoing protests over deteriorating economic conditions which turned violent in northern Iraq on Wednesday one person was assassinated.

The local health office declared to Anadolu Agency that, Civil defense officer Hamza Mohammad, 52, was assassinated while he was trying to tranquil the protestors on the Sulaymaniyah-Dokan highway.

Provincial health director Ferhat Mohammad stated that, a person was critically injured in the chest in the clashes among security forces and protesters in Chamchamal town in Sulaymaniyah province.

In the protests against the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) in Iraq"s Suleymaniyah and Halabja provinces, some eight people were killed and dozens others injured.
