Qatar- Drive begins to remove abandoned vehicles in Industrial Area

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) A week-long special campaign to remove over 500 abandoned vehicles from the Industrial Area, from Street No. 1 to 33 was launched yesterday.
'This is an exceptional campaign launched by the Joint Committee for Removing Abandoned Vehicles at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) following the request of Municipal Office of Industrial Area due to large number of abandoned vehicles in the area, said Head of General Monitoring Section of Doha Municipality Hamad Sultan Al Shahwani.
Al Shahwani who is also a member of the joint committee said that the committee marked over 500 abandoned vehicles and equipment in the Industrial Area which will be removed during the campaign which will last for a week.
'The committee removed over 10,600 abandoned vehicles from across the municipalities this year, said Al Shahwani, adding that the committee is ready to move to any area upon the request of the respective municipality. He said that the campaign will focus on removing cars, heavy vehicles and machines especially from Kassarat to Karajat streets where large number of vehicles have been spotted.
'The committee will intensify efforts to remove all vehicles and equipment from the Industrial Area in coming days in coordination with authorities concerned, said Al Shahwani urging motorists to not abandon their vehicles and to maintain hygiene at public places. Lieutenant Yousuf Fahad Al Ali from Traffic Department who is also a member of the committee said that a fresh campaign has been launched in the Industrial Area to remove the abandoned vehicles.
He said that abandoned vehicles have been issued warning stickers giving a three-day grace period to the motorists to remove their vehicles.
'Those vehicles which will be not removed within given grace period will be taken to the impounding ground where the motorists can claim for their vehicles in three months, afterwards the licensing plate of the vehicles will be cancelled, said Fahad.
He said that Traffic Department is keen to cooperate with motorists because of COVID-19 situation which caused many motorists being stuck abroad. Fahad called upon motorists and owners of garages to cooperate with authorities concerned in following the rules related to abandoning vehicles.
Joint Committee for Removing Abandoned Vehicles since its establishment in 2013 has removed over 61,524 abandoned vehicles, 43,202 vehicles out of them were taken to Al Mashaf Impounding Ground, and 18,312 vehicles towed away to Mesaimeer Impounding Ground in Abu Hamour.
About 25,748 abandoned vehicles in Al Mashaf and 8,205 in Mesaimeer are yet to be claimed.
