FM, Egyptian counterpart hold talks in Amman


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Sept. 23 (Petra) -- Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, on Wednesday received his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, who arrived in Amman to participate in the quartet ministerial meeting hosted by the Kingdom to discuss the Middle East peace process.
The meeting, which will see the participation of French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and the European Union's envoy to the Middle East peace process, Susanna Terstel, will discuss developments in the Middle East peace process and ways to activate efforts to re-launch serious and effective negotiations to resolve the conflict on the basis of the two-state solution.
During their meeting, Safadi and Shoukry emphasized the centrality of the Palestinian issue, and stressed that the two-state solution that ensures the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the pre-June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law, relevant United Nations resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, is the only way to resolve the conflict and achieve just and comprehensive peace.
Both ministers discussed means of enhancing cooperation in all fields and strengthening ties between the two brotherly countries.
Safadi and Shoukry also discussed ways to build on the outcomes of the "third" leaders meeting within the framework of the Jordanian-Iraqi-Egyptian trilateral coordination mechanism that was held in Amman on August 25, 2020, and the implementation mechanisms aimed at translating the visions of the three countries 'leaders according to the joint statement issued by the meeting.
The two ministers discussed regional developments and efforts made to overcome regional challenges on order to achieve security and stability in the region, and affirmed the continuation of coordination and consultation regarding them.
