(MENAFN- Daily Outlook Afghanistan) KABUL - Afghanistan's national power utility has cut power supply to 48 of major bill defaulters in Kabul.
The defaulters include high-level government officials, lawmakers, politicians and strongmen who owe more than 85 million afghanis, according to electricity company Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat.
They have kept defaulting electricity bills for months and years.
Wahidullah Popalzay, head of DABS for Kabul, said that the drive to cut electricity supply to defaulters has been ramped up three times.
Industrial parks and factories are also said to owe 410 million afghanis to DABS.
However, Mohammad Karim Azimi, head of Kabul Chamber of Industries and Mines, said that the industries pay electricity bills on due time.
Residents in Kabul said that refusing to pay electricity bills by strongmen affects power supply to them.
According to DABS data, strongmen, politicians, lawmakers and government officials owe six billion afghanis. (1TV NEWS)
