No truth in rumours about earthquake in Qatar: QMD


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) There is no truth in the rumour spreading on social media about an earthquake in Qatar, Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) said.

Many people have been sharing news about earthquake felt in parts of Doha, which is actually a news clipping from an earlier quake happened years back. When you search on Google this news pops up, which is from an earlier event. 

'No truth to the rumors circulating regarding an earthquake in Qatar, we ask everyone please follow the news and information from official sources and our social media accounts, QMD said.

Earlier, Ministry of Public Health had urged people to refrain from sharing unfound information and trust news only from official sources after many such instances of rumours getting shared on social media.

Few days back, Ministry of Interior (MoI) had said it has taken action against 'a number of people for spreading false news and their cases were proceeded to the public prosecution.

The MoI had warned against circulating rumours which is a 'serious offence that can expose one to legal accountability.

It is better to always verify any news update you receive before sharing it.
