Kuwait- Arab Economic, Social Council concludes 105th session


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Feb 6 (KUNA) -- The Arab Economic and Social Council stressed on Thursday the need to address tax challenges arising from the digital economy and the Arab strategy to advance women's work within the framework of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
This came at the conclusion of the 105th regular session of the Council at the level economy and finance ministers, which was held at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo.
In a statement to KUNA, head of the Kuwaiti delegation, Assistant Undersecretary for Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Finance Nabil Al-Abduljalil said that the Council adopted its decisions related to the topics of the upcoming Arab summit at its 31st regular session, scheduled to be held in Algeria at the end of March next.
He added that these topics included the report of the Secretary General on joint Arab economic and social development and a report on the follow-up to the implementation of the decisions of the Arab Summit (Tunisia 2019).
The topics also included a report on the follow-up to the implementation of the decisions of the Arab development summit (Beirut January 2019), the Arab strategy for tourism, and the support of Arab countries hosting Syrian refugees, he said.
Al-Abduljalil added that the Council adopted a report on the requirements of the 'Greater Arab Free Trade Area' and the establishment of the 'Arab Customs Union'.
He said that the Council also stressed the need to address tax challenges arising from the digital economy and the establishment of the Arab Center for Economic and Social Empowerment Studies in the State of Palestine.
The agenda of the 105th session also included a follow-up on the implementation of the Arab-African summit decisions issued at its fourth session in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea 2016, prepare the economic aspects for the fifth summit, to be held in Riyadh next March, and the developments of the Arab customs union, along with other economic and social items.
