Kuwaiti students document migration of Pelicans to Kuwait


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Jan 26 (KUNA) -- A team of Kuwaiti students of the "ambassadors of the environment" initiative concluded a trip to Kerkini Lake in Greece, to document the life of the Pelican bird, who migrates to Kuwait annually.
The trip, coordinated by Kuwait's Environmental Lens' team under Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), aims to spread environmental awareness among students, head of the delegation Nora Al-Jabri told KUNA on Sunday.
The trip, which involves students with remarkable nature photography skills, also aims to educate participants on the importance of bird migration and protecting the eco system, she added.
On his part, trip coordinator and team member Omar Al-Sayed Omar, said the annual trip's program, that started on January 19, included boosting students skills in taking photos of birds on land and water.
Meanwhile, team member Dr. Aaref Al-Awadhi affirmed that by photographing ecosystem aspects in Kuwait or abroad, students will learn that damage to one of these areas could affect the bird's migration to Kuwait and increases extinction threat.
Last year, photographer Omar Al-Sayed Omar managed to monitor and take rare photos of the Pelican, which is classified among the endangered birds, according to the World Conservation Organization.
He documented the Pelican's life and searched for its home until he reached Kerkini Lake and won the admiration of the largest global documentary channels interested in nature and living organisms. (end)
