IMF chief, Sudan's PM discuss economic developments


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Dec 7 (KUNA) -- Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva met Friday with Sudan's Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok in the nation's capital during which they discussed "recent economic developments in Sudan and the region."
"Sudan faces significant challenges, compounded by past sanctions and the legacy of conflict," IMF chief stressed in a statement.
She said that they discussed "the authorities' economic reforms to restore macroeconomic stability and promote inclusive growth."
She added that they also highlighted "the need for a significant increase in social transfers to the most vulnerable groups."
"IMF staff is engaged with the authorities on how the Fund can further assist with their reform efforts and to help ensure that Sudan receives adequate external assistance," she affirmed.
She stressed, "donor support is crucial to help the country's gradual recovery." (end)
