Yemen: cholera epidemic kills 25 in Lahj


(MENAFN) Some 25 people passed away as a result of cholera epidemic and acute watery diarrhea in Yemen's southern port city of Lahj over the past couple of months, a medical source informed Xinhua on Saturday.

The source of Lahj's Health Department emphasized on condition of secrecy that "there is an increase in the death cases in Lahj as a result of cholera and acute watery diarrhea in recent months."

He affirmed that the emergency statistics at the Health Department of Lahj indicated that approximately 4,500 people are affected with cholera according to medical examinations.

The epidemic of cholera mostly hits rural areas and villages in the southern province of Lahj because of the lack of health care there.
